About Me I am a fully qualified hypnotherapist working in Eastcote, Pinner, North West London. My training was with the London College of Clinical Hypnosis at Imperial College in Kensington where I passed the Certificate and Diploma exams in Clinical Hypnotherapy. These qualifications are independently accredited by the University of Greenwich. More recently I obtained my Practitioner's Diploma in Cognitive Behaviour Hypnotherapy and my Practitioner's Certificate in Emotional Freedom Technique. I am a fully insured member of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis. (www.bsch.org.uk) British Society of Clinical Hypnosis. After some years teaching in Adult Education I was intrigued by students often negative attitudes to their own abilities and potentials. A BSc in psychology at Birkbeck, London University, reinforced my view that much of our behaviour is constrained by unconscious and involuntary mental processes.
We may rationalise unproductive habits such as smoking or overeating, asking ourselves why we are doing this. We may struggle to overcome anxieties and phobias telling ourselves we are being silly. However this conscious, analytical approach is often not successful. If there is a conflict between the conscious and the unconscious then the latter will usually win.
By resolving such problems in the unconscious, where they start, I am fully convinced that the therapies that I offer can provide an effective solution to a wide range of conditions. About The TherapiesHypnotherapy Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis for therapeutic purposes. It is the unconscious mind that governs our automatic thoughts and behaviours, those habits we have that don't seem to be under our voluntary control. Great for the repetitive things in life like driving a car or tying shoelaces which, as they become automatic, we hardly have to think about them. Not so good for smoking, eating or feeling anxious as these can become automatic too and outside conscious control. During hypnosis the unconscious part of the mind becomes more accessible allowing beneficial suggestions to be accepted and integrated into a more productive way of living. Cognitive Behaviour HypnotherapyCognitive Behaviour Hypnotherapy(CBH) uses a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) approach in conjunction with hypnosis. The underlying principle of CBT is that we distress and upset ourselves, not by life's events, but by the view we take of them. It is believed that making demands from life - I must get that job, I have to give a good presentation etc, leads to emotional distress by not accepting that there may be other outcomes. The possibility of 'failure' is seen as catastrophic rather than an uncomfortable part of the learning process. CBT, reinforced with hypnosis, allows for a more healthy and realistic mindset on both a logical and emotional level. Emotional Freedom TechniqueEmotional Freedom Technique (EFT) can be described as a needleless form of acupuncture. The basis of EFT is that all negative emotions and uncomfortable feelings are caused by a disruption in the body's energy system. So rather than the memory itself it is the disruption that causes the distress and discomfort. EFT can rebalance the system safely and gently so that the memory remains but the emotional association has gone.
